So you just created a social media page, now what? Well, you now need to attract followers and fans and keep them intrigued with your content. Writing content for social media may seem overwhelming as you are faced not only with the challenge of what to say but how to say it as well. There is a very big difference between a post that is directed towards an established businessman and one that seeks to attract the attention of a laidback university student.

Another way to look at it is that your content should take on a conversational form and be easy to understand. It should also be entertaining. Again, think of social media followers as your friends. We are really talking here about a tool that can bring out your true colours so use this to your advantage.

Although tone is a very important aspect to ensure that your posts appeal to your followers, interacting and engaging with your followers is just as important. Yes, you want to educate your followers and you will be tempted to simply throw information at them, but this is not what your fans are always looking for. You want those that follow your page to be engaged with your content and be willing to interact with you. Give your fans a reason to check out your article or video! Don’t just simply produce posts talking about a sale or promotion, instead have people engage by sharing your post or picture in order to receive a 10% discount on their next purchase.
Target audience, check! Fun tone, Check! Engagement, check! So what’s next? Well, there’s still one more thing! Focus on what your main point is and don’t elaborate on unnecessary details. Think of how many tweets or newsfeed pictures people go through on a daily basis, why would someone stop and check out your content over another? Let’s be honest, no one reads that dragged-on Facebook post or that extra long tweet with a link to the extended version of the text! Think attention-grabbing news headline! Make your post stand out by attracting your audience’s attention quickly, and remembering that you will not have their eyes for very long; so make the best out of it!
